Founded in 2008, Montgomery Bakehouse has become Montgomery County's premier destination for homemade baked goods. Since opening its doors, the Bakehouse has earned the loyalty of customers both locally and across the country through nationwide shipments of our signature Texas Tornado cookies. For generations, our family has been committed to authentic recipes with handcrafted quality.
Our story begins with German immigrants Gotthilf "John" Schenk and Pauline Dees Schenk, who came to the United States from Nottingen, Germany in the early 1920s. After apprenticing under a family of American bakers in Germantown, Pennsylvania, John founded Schenk's Bakery in 1938. There, he passed the baking tradition on to his sons, Ken Sr. and Carl, establishing a family legacy that would span for generations.
In 1974, Ken Sr. opened Schenk's Pastry Shoppe in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, where he trained his sons, Ken Jr. and Timothy. Ken Jr later founded the Pennsylvania Bakery in Camp Hill, while Timothy and his family moved to Conroe, Texas to begin a new chapter.
Inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of John and Pauline, Timothy, his wife Heather, and their children built the Montgomery Bakehouse from the ground up. The bakery opened in August 2008 and relocated to its current, larger location in May 2016. Today, it remains a cornerstone of the community, continuing a family tradition rooted in craftsmanship, hospitality, and service.
We are grateful to every customer who has welcomes us into life's celebrations and milestones. It is our privilege to bring a little sweetness to your table, and we look forward to serving you for generations to come.
